Here is a simple 5 minute exercise to help you move past the “I don’t know”:
1. What are the things you DO want?
– a team?
– collaboration?
– strong morale?
– flexibility?
– financial security?
– autonomy?
2. What are the things you DONT want?
– colleagues who are toxic?
– no say over the hours your work?
– an inability to switch off?
– excessive work load?
– time recording?
When you focus on what you know, you access the part of your brain which allows you to be the most resourceful, productive and efficient.
When you allow yourself to focus on what you don’t know, you shut down the part of your brain that is best at creative idea generation.
It’s like trying to problem solve in fight or flight, in the middle of a panic attack.
You are NEVER going to figure out what you do want from that space.
You already KNOW you don’t want to do your job any more.
What else do you know?
Use that list as your starting point for what you want to do next.
